Natural Beauty: With Just a Little Help
I was so excited that last spring the no makeup makeup look became a thing. Sure it was partially driven by the pandemic and the fact that we weren’t going anywhere. But it has moved into 2021 with a bit of a kick. Natural beauty is the name of the game these days. Sure, contouring isn’t gone all together, but we’re highlighting your natural features rather than going nutty with a lot of makeup products to try to look like a Karashian.
This post is for people who are spending 10-15 mins TOPS on beauty in the morning. I get it. I hate the part of my new job that means an hour in the bathroom doing hair and makeup. I can get it done in 30 but it’s surface and doesn’t last past my photo session. I think most of my readers want minimal natural beauty. So that’s what you’re getting today.
Yes folks it starts with skin care. In the past I have gone into detail about my routine that’s a lot of steps but I am going to break it down into bare minimum for glowing skin. I am going to offer you products at a lot of price points too.
Hyaluronic Acid’s function is to retain the natural moisture in your skin. If you want to glow this is the most natural way to do it, even though it has the word acid in it. Currently I use Elizabeth Arden Capsules. Here are some other great options:
Mario Badescu HA with SPF - doubles as a sunscreen.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost - doubles as a moisturizer.
The Ordinary - Allure Beauty Winner.
The Inky List - passes Sephora’s Clean Beauty standard.
Vitamin C is going to brighten your skin tone and help with any uneven texture and dark spots. It’s not going to make miracles happen but you’ll see a difference in the way you glow. Again I am using Elizabeth Arden Capsules. Here are some other great options:
Sunday Riley CEO Oil - doubles as a moisturizing oil that I use from time to time.
Olenriksen Vit C Gel Moisturizer - doubles as a moisturizing gel.
La-Roche-Posay Pure Vit C Serum - also has hyaluronic acid and other good stuff in it.
Mario Badescue Vit C Serum - this feels amazing and is what I used before I switched to the EA.
Exfoliation is necessary to shed the dead skin cells holding back your natural beauty. My go to is presently SRB rice enzyme powder that washes off my makeup and exfoliates
Eve Lom Cleanser - this is amazing and I use it sparingly because it’s very expensive and is a complicated process but it also removes makeup and exfoliates.
GlamGlow Exfoliating Cleanser - this is a combo of their mud cleanser with tropical exfoliants and I keep it in my shower.
The Ordinary Peel - this is an acid peel which isn’t as scary as it sounds but you need to read the directions.
St. Ives Exfoliate Oil Cleanser - I am not a fan of their regular exfoliant for your face but the oil in this makes it a better option.
Moisture comes in a lot of forms. From a toning spray to moisturizer to facial oils you have a range of options. Yes I use La Mer, which you’re unlikely to even want to look at the price of but it’s by no means the only option. I have weirdly sensitive skin and it works best for me.
Smashbox Halo Tinted Moisturizer with SPF - I use this almost every morning for a healthy glow.
Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizer - my daughter uses this, very sparingly, when she’s playing soccer in the winter, freezing rain, etc (yes, I cringe at that price on her, she also uses an Aveeno with SPF in the morning).
Sunday Riley Juno Oil - full of antioxidants, this gives an instant natural glow.
Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Petal Facial Spray - If you only need a little extra moisture after other steps or because you have oily skin this is a great option, I use it under moisturizer.
In this photo I am wearing an Elizabeth Arden Vitamin C capsule and Smashbox Halo Tinted Moisturizer. The previous night I used Hyaluronic Acid Capsules followed by Thayer’s spray topped with La Mer Cream.
I’m breaking this down to the Brass Tax. The very basics of the no makeup makeup look you can achieve quickly and beautifully. Only two options on this because if I don’t restrain myself I can go on forever.
Cream Eyeshadow in a shade just darker than your own. I use Sensegence which you can get from my friend Becca, but here are two options that you can order online.
Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick - the gold standard and has been around forever.
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick - stick with a matte color or just a hint of shine
Mascara that is simple but still there.
Sephora Lashcraft - I have never found one I like better.
Sky High Mascara - This is the Tik-Tok drug store sell out.
Concealer you just can’t ignore those bags under your eyes. I use all of these but I am also a fan of Seint that you can get from my friend Nicole.
Benefit Boi-oing Concealer - you can get a darker color for contouring too.
Saint Laurent Touchet - I adore this concealer. Either I am doing full Seint or this is what I am relying on.
Cream Blush and Lip combo is such an easy one two punch and a must for natural looking makeup. Again I love the liquid to cream from Sensegence and the cream from Seint but these are others I use.
Milk MakeUp Lip and Cheek - This looks so natural!
Winky Lux Lip and Cheek Stain - This has a glossy look I love.
In this photo I am wearing Sensegense Americano, Sephora Lashcraft, Saint Laurent Touche, Milk Lip and Cheek. The difference between this and the first is simple contouring. I also used this three barrel curling iron for a natural hair look. Below is a YouTube video of me walking though this process.
